Every two minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer. It's key that the Life Science Industry is able to gather and access all necessary clinical data in order to find new ways to treat and cure all forms of cancer.
Clinical trial recruitment plays a vital role in this process so it's alarming that the pandemic continues to have such a major negative impact on research and development.
Recruitment to cancer clinical trials in England fell by 59% during the first year of the pandemic, according to experts. The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) said COVID-19 had exacerbated long-standing issues with trial funding, regulation, and access. The report, Clinical Trials in Cancer , warns that huge opportunities could be missed to drive improvements in patient outcomes unless action is taken to open clinical trials more widely and at an earlier stage of treatment.
