Linked is a very interesting discussion, calling out the US government to utilise their capabilities on cybercriminal groups to thwart the ransomware pandemic. Whilst a valid argument, that will no doubt develop further over the coming months, organisations cannot rely on this as a means of risk management.

Whether or not government resources are used to crack down on cybercriminals, ransomware operators will continue to pick off their victims. And in the same breath, whilst relying on a cyber insurance policy to pay a ransom isn't necessarily the way it should viewed, a robust policy is a crucial form of risk management that businesses should be investing in to deal with an event if they happen to be one of the casualties. Without this, it can be a pretty lonely ride.
